chalcid

Small (2–3 mm/0.08–0.12 in) parasitic wasp. In general, chalcids are metallic blue or green insects. The great majority of them are parasites on other insects, chiefly butterflies and moths, and less frequently aphids, bugs, beetles, and flies. They usually attack the egg and larval stages of their host, and have often been used in programmes of biological control.

Chalcids are in the superfamily Chalcidoidea , order Hymenoptera, class Insecta, phylum Arthropoda.
